Former illustrious U.S. Congressman and University of Louisville law professor Ron Mazzoli brings many talents to the Boys’ Haven Board, which he joined in 2002. For now, however, he is a member in absentia, pursuing a master’s of public administration degree from Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government.
At the age of 70, he is the oldest student to attend Harvard and will be the oldest to graduate.
Congressman Mazzoli served 24 years as 3rd District U.S. Representative and one term in the Kentucky state Senate. He became one of America’s most highly regarded lawmakers, co-authoring the landmark Immigration Act of 1986. As a private citizen, he later headed a fund drive for Louisville’s St. Xavier High School, his alma mater, joined the University of Louisville Board of Overseers and served on the board of the Louisville Community Foundation. Today he stays involved with those institutions as well as with Boys and Girls Haven.
“I remember Father Jim as a tall, young priest with a wonderful smile and a twinkle in his eye,” Congressman Mazzoli says. “In my opinion, Father Jim Maloney ranks as an authentic American hero for what he accomplished during his lifetime.”
